** spoiler alert ** I don't care for The Namesake nearly as much as Interpeter of Maladies. Lahiri struggles a little with sustaining the plot-- Gogol is not that interesting a character, and the novel can't carry to movement past his father's death. The novel seems to slip from her control every so often when new characters are introduced. All of the women in Gogol's life are more interesting than he is, to be honest. Certainly not a bad read, but if you're looking for another Interpeter of Maladies, this isn't it.
