Even though this book had so many sad, haunting parts, I enjoyed it. Enjoy does not seem to be an appropriate word, however. I was gripped by the story? It was a train running off of the tracks and I had to watch it happen?

You can read a brief summary at Goodreads or Amazon, so I won't speak to the plot. I will speak to things that made me think.

There were opportunities for characters to do the right thing; by not doing the right thing, events were set in motion that ruined or damaged lives. Lies of omission caused damage, secrets caused damage, racism caused damage, fear caused damage, loneliness caused damage. There was a lot of damage.

There was also caring, and even some of that caused damage.

People interpret events based on their personal history. This is evident in the way the story unfolded.

I highly recommend this book.
