Read in April, 2012

The author knows how to draw in the reader and keep her turning pages. This is a fast-moving and suspenseful fantasy tale filled with interesting characters. The author has done a good job of developing a system of magic in a world into which three college students from our world are suddenly thrust. For me these human characters were the least well-drawn. Megan's attitudes and behavior are overdone, in my opinion, and both Cory and Rob are inconsistent in their actions, their personalities less well-defined than those of the nonhuman characters. I suspect this flaw will be remedied in future volumes. The story is well-plotted with intriguing twists that build interest and suspense. I look forward to reading the second volume when it becomes available.
