Oprah, Miracles, and the New Earth: A Critique
by Erwin W. Lutzer
by Erwin W. Lutzer
This is a good book that explains the background and teachings of “new spirituality”, how it affects us and why it is mass market Deception. It is consistent with Watchman Nee’s “Latent Power of the Soul”.
Lutzer’s writing style is engaging, he challenges the philosophies or fundamentals of these teachings by going back to the origins and exposing the contradictions.
It is near impossible not to be provoked or stirred in some way. It makes one think. Palatable “secrets” are often enticing but requires us to forfeit common sense, our power that is to reason.
If success is proof that such teachings work, then we must ask ourselves, “At what cost?”.
Any kind of “spirituality” -however packaged- that encourages self-glorification, exalts the power of the human mind and then tells you to empty it (of your will) with meditation, denies the reality of death-sickness-sin, plainly insults the intelligence and uniqueness of every human being.
How arrogant to think ourselves divine when we cannot create something out of nothing nor bring back the dead, nor end wars or even solve the economic, pandemic and environmental crises of today…
How can death be an illusion when people (and animals) are dying every day by the decisions we make? How could a baby with sickness have willed itself to be that way?
If power of thought is all it takes, then how come Ms Winfrey weighs as much as she does now?
On record she blamed hyper-thyroid and doctors for not detecting it. O hypocrisy. If she really practises what she preaches – sickness does not exist, she brought it on herself and there is nothing to forgive because there is no wrong. As for claiming the self divine, surely obesity isn’t perfection.
The human will is a gift. Salvation is a gift. Good works can’t save us from death.
To take a step further, it is my observation that atheists have had bad experiences, been offended or hurt in some way by the actions and reactions of Christians and wrong teachings (however well-intended) by churches; while pantheists in their search for spirituality have not truly experienced God or His presence and so therefore settle for manifestations of “light” and enlightenment.
Instead of looking to self, it ought to be dying to self.
Bravo to “not being silent any longer”.
