This newest entry in the Maximum Ride series was fine. It had a lot of action, which is what I think James Patterson is talking about when he calls it a "pageturner." He's not overly concerned with plot, as the events of the story are basically the same as all the rest of the books--Max and the flock do some stuff, get chased, fight some new genetically enhanced enemies, and blow stuff up. And Max and Fang mope about each other. And then kiss.
The thing that bothers me about these books is that they're all flash and no substance. None of it means anything. There's some preachiness about the environment, again, but James Patterson has very little faith in kids and their ability to grasp subtleties, which is a shame.

They deserve books that were conceived and written in more than ten minutes.
So--entertaining enough, for meaningless summer reading, but kids--and the adults who raid their section at the book store--can do a lot better.
