Extremely interesting read... however... the editing left much to be desired.

Also, Emily Morris in another review writes this:

"Portions devoted to describing how her own physical beauty, intelligence, courage and athletic skill was greater than those around her seem out of place and unnecessary..."

And while I hate to criticize Ms. Moody's pride in herself during a rather difficult time of history, it really felt overdone at times. There are only so many times one can read about how hot every man in the world finds her before it becomes rather tedious. Also, how many times did she lose 15 pounds in a week? I almost started counting half-way through the book.

Regardless, this was still a great first-hand account of a black woman growing up in the tension of the 60s in the south.
