My expectations were not met with this book. Big call that the author is better than Stieg Larsson et al. The quality of the writing is fine, but the style is languid and at times disconnected, supposedly to reflect the emotional/spiritual disconnection of the characters. But I like my crime fiction tight and well-paced. I was also frustrated with the ineptitude of the police questioning during interrogations. I frequently felt that the detectives said too much and that no self-respecting homicide detective would handle an interrogation so badly. But who am I to say?

By the end of the book I felt the revelation of who was responsible for the crime was inevitable and, by this stage, I really didn't care too much.

Not the best crime fiction on offer. Pick another.
