it was amazing

Set aside some fun time to enjoy this fast paced novella, which is the first book of the trilogy. You will delve into an apocalyptic world that immediately feels plausible in these days of pharmaceutical “miracles” and quick cures gone wrong. Mara is forced to make a swift transformation from a happily married woman concerned with fertility problems to a woman who must kill ravenous brain damaged humans to survive. I found it particularly fascinating to follow the story of a female in the midst of an apocalypse, who must also defend against rapists, deal with pregnancy, and struggle with her nurturing nature. My small problem was with how they kept forgetting to lock the doors, which possibly could have been explained by them been letting the dog in or out. I greatly enjoyed Shannon Mayer’s fearless and unflinching launch into darker issues and terrible choices. There is great depth in this author’s work, and yes, I already grabbed book two.
