This was a thriller of the same style as Silence of the Lambs. Bones was a true page turner, packed with action from the first page to the last page. I don't have much praise for Burke's writing on it's own- her writing fit the narrator, who is a reporter, and felt terse and journalistic. The book was totally driven by plot, which is the way it should be for a good thriller. It would make a great film but narrowly misses being a great book, both because Burke's writing is sometimes lacking (it feels a bit shallow) and because her evil killer isn't as interesting as he might be. While he is pretty nasty, he doesn't have anything that sets him apart from the classic serial killer model, and unlike Hannibal Lector, isn't interesting on his own.
