What a thought provoking read. I kept wondering what happened in Chris McCandless' 11th grade English class when they studied Thoreau. This young man took others' idealistic ideas to the limit. Thoreau only went to Walden Pond, not freezing Alaska. Krakauer put a lot of himself into the book, i.e. his attempt at climbing which nearly turned fatal, hoping to show the universality of McCandless' strivings. The book is entirely fascinating, and I hope all the kids who read it will learn important lessons from doing so.
