When such a classic book gets translated into such an iconic film, it is hard for me not to compare the too. I love them both, however three things I prefer about the book:
1] The explanation by the caretaker of the "Shinining" ability with details from his youth and the smell triggers is just great
2] The temperamental boilers that "creep" add effectively to the suspense
3] the overall more arduous, difficult journey of the caretaker back to The Overlook really helps build the suspense.
