** spoiler alert ** The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie meets Lord of the Flies. I thought this was going to be predictable but I was surprised by the end. The writing is pretty lovely, with Homer-like repeated phrases and details. There's also a character named Sheila Kohler, the author of this book.

Miss G.: "If you can't bedazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit." p. 34

... ashamed of her shame.

We sweated in the thick heat, filled with the coldhearted thrill of tragedy. p. 112

flowers, trees, veld
pool, river
drought, rain
