When Allie starts hearing her dead father's voice, she realizes that his ghost has possessed her. It's a battle to stay in control of her body and feelings when he keeps intruding...especially when his widow (Allie's step-mother) is around. The writing on this was amazing. I loved watching the internal struggle as she tries to function in public.

I love how Devon Monk plays out Allie's memory losses from her use of magic. There are things that we as readers witnessed that Allie can no longer remember. Monk certainly knows how to play up her character's flaws and squeeze out the last ounce of intensity in every situation.

New favorite character: Stone. A pet gargoyle is the coolest sidekick.
