I'm giving this book a 3 because I feel it was very well written--a fine example of literature. With that said, it was a bit slow for my taste. Moreover, I found almost all of the characters unappealing and underdeveloped. Really, the protagonist is the only likeable character, and sometimes it was even a stretch to connect with her. Some of this negativity might stem from how much I hate the cold (the book is set in Antarctica), and, like I said, it was well written with plenty of interesting themes and issues to explore and consider.
