Wah-waaaaaahhhhhh.

This was my first time reading Eugenides, and I was quite excited. Was the writing good? Sure. The story and the characters, not so much. I didn't like anybody. Which can be fine if I see something redeeming about the story. Here's the story **SPOILERS**: Boy 1 and Girl have been friends for years, but never got anywhere romantically. They're no longer friends. Girl meets Boy 2 and thinks he's fabulous. Turns out he's manic-depressive. While Boy 1 is traveling the world, Girl and Boy 2 live together and get married. I think we're supposed to be learning about...relationships? Love? The highs and lows and what you can put up with in life?

Girl and Boy 2 separate. Boy 1 helps her heal, but they decide not to be together. The end. So...sometimes love doesn't work out? And that's okay. What? I had to read this whole book to read that? Dude, I already know that. All of us that live in the real world know that.

What am I missing?!
