My daughter loved this book, with all of its adventure and humor. It is a lot of fun to read aloud. I have to admit, however, that the relationship between Mr. Popper and his wife bothered me a fair bit, because it is extremely old-fashioned (in all fairness, the book WAS written in 1938). For example, Mrs. Popper is happy for Mr. Popper to go off to the Antarctic for a year or two, on a moment's notice, because it will be much easier for her to keep the house tidy without a man around. We often discussed these sorts of things while reading, but mainly my daughter found them rather funny and didn't take them too seriously.
