The positive: Even though I'm going to go on to be fairly negative about this book, I think it's important to note that a "bad" Monstrumologist novel is still better than many, many books I read every day. This one does not disappoint on the gore or the flawed characters -- Will Henry's messed-up-ness is coming to light more and more, there are interesting dynamics among the cast, and the whole first half is nigh-flawless in its relentless amping up of tension and horror and the certainty that something big is coming.

The negative: And then we get that ending.

The summary: So, basically, it's really not "bad," because none of the series has been bad, and up until the last two chapters it's incredibly, terribly good. But the disappointment of the ending cannot be overstated for me.

Jacki YAAAAAY I can't wait til you finish and we can talk about the ending.

Jacki Terrible ending. Terrible, terrible ending. If this had somehow been the first book, though, I'd have really liked it. It's just in comparison with 1 and 2, particularly 2, it doesn't stand up.
