I just got this book from the UK where it was published this year and doesn't come out in the US until spring 2012. Another page-turning Philip Kerr novel with Bernie Gunther- this time dealing with 1941-1942 Berlin and Prague and Bernie's encounters with the German monster Heydrich before his assasination.Czech spies, a murder mystery and a love affair set among the brutal and incomprehnsible mass murder of the time on the Eastern Front. And as usual, Bernie with his unleashed cynicism, his ability to say the wrong things to the wrong people who are often too stupid to understand, gives black humor to a humorless time. You can't help liking Bernie and loathing all the Nazis he tries to belittle while trying to keep his head from the guillotine.
