Having the worst birthday party ever, Kayla wishes that all her birthday wishes come true, since they never freakin’ do. Well, when a My Little Pony shows up, and a live Ken doll, and a live Raggedy Ann doll life gets complicated. Then Kayla starts to worry because last year she wished that her lifelong crush, Ben, would kiss her. The only problem is Ben is her best friend’s boyfriend and if he kisses her, it will probably destroy their friendship. [return][return]This was a fun premise. My biggest problem is that Kayla is whinny and a little too freaked out. A lot of the disasters are over the top. About halfway through the story, as she starts to change, things get a little better. In fact, her growth becomes one of the story’s strong points. I was happy with how things eventually worked out, especially in the friendship area. Nothing was too fairytale ending. The dramatic changes teenagers go through was well done and realistic. The wishes were good representations of what a girl at various stages of her life might wish for. There were a few minor loose ends that don’t get tied off, but they were very minor. If you can overlook some of Kayla's annoying characteristics and the overly dramatic situations this was a cute little read.
