The Impossible Dead follows Internal Affairs Detective Inspector Malcolm Fox into a local police department to investigate a seemingly simple case of whether officers covered up a colleague's behavior of trading preferential treatment of women for sex. As he starts investigating, Fox is almost immediately pulled in two different directions: looking into a double murder (one old and one new) and a possible link to terrorist activity in the area. Can, somehow, all three crimes be related? Fox and his two colleagues battle not only potential villains but also encounter internal police hatred for them because they work in the Complaint's Section (Internal Affairs). Fox also has to deal with his father who is very ill and his sister who is not the most pleasant of people. Fans of the author's Rebus series of books will love DI Malcolm Fox - a chip off the old Rebus block!
