An elderly woman recounts her story of being a teenager in Dresden, Germany during the firebombing of World War II. But hers is a unique tale that no one at the nursing home believes: that her family kept an elephant in the garden. The book is an easy read, and it is well-written. But I suppose I wished I were more into it than I was... otherwise I would have read it in one sitting. Still, it is a unique perspective on war that I think readers of all ages (especially grade school age) will enjoy.
