V is for Vengeance (Kinsey Millhone #22)
by Sue Grafton
by Sue Grafton
I first started reading Kinsey's books in 1987 with "D is for Deadbeat". I quickly read the first three and then have eagerly awaited the new ones as they appeared. I have never been disappointed and I was not this one. It's like putting on your comfortable robe and favorite slippers and catching up with an old friend. Grafton has been very smart in keeping her in the 80's and her cases just one after another.
This particular story has several plot lines that eventually intersect with each other. I picture Grafton plotting on 3 by 5 cards just as Kinsey keeps notes of her case on them. I picture Grafton laying the cards out on a desk and studying them as she decides where to take the characters. As usual, Kinsey runs into a colorful bunch of characters- all fully developed. My favorite is Dante, a criminal with morals. Kinsey's investigation takes her into some interesting places and situations.
It was a very rewarding read and I am only sorry there are only three more books in the series.
