it was amazing

Pink and Say is a touching story of Patricia Polacco’s ancestor who fought in the civil war. Sheldon (Say) fought on the Union side and had been injured during the war. Pinkus, a black Union solider, found Sheldon and carried him to safety. Pink and his mom take care of Say until he healed up. They become very close friends and share many past memories. One-day people looking for union soldiers came to where they are staying. Pinks mom sacrifices her life to save the two soldiers. Eventually the two are caught and taken to Andersonville and separated. Pink was hung hours later. Say was imprisoned, but survived through the war. He went on to have a family and live a long live.

Patricia Polacco does an incredible job getting the reader to connect to the characters. Your heart breaks when Pinks mom is shot and when Pink and Say are separated. Readers truly feel part of the effects the civil war had on our country.
