I just looked back at my review for the first in this series "Birthmarked" & I had marked that with only 3 stars as "I liked it." My review was rather firm for it as well. So O'Brien has really upped her game with "Prized" in my opinion. I thought this was a fantastic book. Because it's a dystopia with themes of reproduction & societal norms, there are definately going to be some uncomfortable moments for any reader. What I liked is that the focus was less on the reproductive issues than the make-up of the society. Gemma's arrival challenges the existing power structure, without her necessarily intending to. This was a totally engaging read, and I can see an opening for another in this series that I will definately read. (In point of fact, I may have to reread Birthmarked after all, though I said I didn't expect to in my review of it.)
