really liked it
bookshelves: first-reads, re-read
Read from January 14 to 15, 2012

Cinder, a cyborg mechanic with an unknown past, lives with a step-mother who not only resents and hates her but also blames her for her daughter having the plague. With all of this stacked against her it’s no surprise that Cinder is volunteered for experiments against her will. The bright side of this dismal plot is the handsome prince who cannot possibly fall in love with a cyborg citizen. To complicate matters further; their world is in danger and Cinder must uncover the truth of her past to save them all.
This is definitely an original take on a timeless fairy tale. Cinder is a strong heroine as well as a strong character. She was the only character that I felt like I got a good feel for unfortunately. I appreciate a good villain and they could have been stronger. There is a good amount of action which is a positive, but I felt the pacing was on the slow side and didn’t quite match up. Overall I liked it and will watch for future installments. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the retelling of fairy tales, appreciates a strong heroine, or is just looking for a fun read.
