I knew I wanted to read this the second I read the synopsis, and wasn’t let down. It has been 11 years since the attack and since they have seen a Partial. We learn what the Partials are and how they came to be. With the world decaying around them the Senate has enforced the Hope Act making it a law that at the age of 18 any girl is to become pregnant, knowing that every single birth since the RM virus has been out not one child has lived. We learn about the Voice who are the rebels, the Break which caused everything to backfire, and the Defense that they have built around the city to keep them safe. Or so they thought.

Kira is one tough cookie. When she has her mind set there will be nothing to stand in the way to change her mind. I loved that she wasn’t going to back down from anything and stood up for what she believed in. Kira has it set in her mind that she will be the one to find the cure for the virus and when she learns that her best friend is pregnant she will stop at nothing to find the cure, even if it means that she will lose her own life. In this world that Dan has created we are in the future, our world has pretty much ended and all to our own fault. I love that her friends were just as much of this story as the main character was. They each had their own part in this and they weren’t just fill in’s.

This was action packed from the beginning to the end, albeit some minor slow points in the middle, but then the action was back on. I could really see myself in this world and on the run, fighting for what I believed in. Kira was already in a relationship from the beginning of the book with Marcus so there was love in there but none of the insta-love but we do get to see the struggles that they have to go through with different outlooks on things. Just when you think things are finally starting to match up there is a change in the plot line leaving you turning the pages quicker to find out just what is really going on. I was left shocked in various different parts of this especially towards the end. Not knowing who to trust, who to turn to for help, who caused what, and who is actually doing the right thing. I loved the mystery behind this and cannot wait for the second book to come out to answer all the questions that not only Kira had at the ending but myself as well.
