Hmm. Strangely, I can't say that I enjoyed this book, but I'm glad I read it. It was fascinating and new (and very odd) story about Mr.Okada, who loses his cat, and subsequently his wife, to some strange netherworld in Tokyo. It was one of those books that you just kind of roll with because if you overthink it, you might lose some of the wackiness of the characters.
There were a few scenes I really enjoyed, mostly when Mr. Okada spends time with his 16 yr-old neighbor, May. There is a weird lovability to her, in spite of her cracked-up plot to ("not quite") let him die in the well. She seems to understand alot about life and death as a young person and had some profound moments, I thought. I also thought the dichotomy of the hero and his nemesis was cool, that his brother-in-law was by far the more attractive and powerful person in this world, but that Mr. Okada somehow had this supernatural power in the netherworld.
