really liked it
bookshelves: fantasy, young-adult
Read in November, 2011

Another beautifully written dark fantasy with tight world-building and a serious emotional impact. My lucky week!

I have mixed feelings about the story being told from Dollmage Hobblefoot's perspective. It made sense that it was, and it gave unlikeable characters so much depth, but it also kept Annakey at a distance, and I wanted to know her. Otherwise, I would be hard-pressed to find anything to complain about here.

I also loved Keturah and Lord Death, by the same author.

Notice how the really, really, really talented YA fantasy authors don't churn out romantic trilogies every eight months or so? Yeah, ME TOO.
