Definitely not something to read and believe as an introduction to Victorian literature, but a collection of lively, conversational opinions, and a couple of interesting ideas. For me the most interesting thing was reading a historical perspective of the Victorians, written in 1913 before women even had the vote, reflecting opinions that are neither Victorian nor ours. It made it very clear that history and perceptions of the most notable writers in a period are not at all stable.
