The town of Widowsbury in the Pernicious Valley has been filled with a sense of creeping doom ever since The Storm 12 years before. It is even worse for 3 students in Madame Gertrude's School for Girls in the town, for they are not only new comers, but so odd that the other students and even the headmistress pick on them: Adelaide is teased for being a werewolf since she has keenr hearing and sense of smell than others, Maggie is teased for being abnormally strong, and little Beatrice is teased because she claims she can see ghosts. Yet when not only a nice new librarian but several children start disappearing, they team up w/ the poor son of the cook for the school for boys to use their strengths to save the town from an even greater evil.
