I've yet to find a Hemingway book that I enjoyed as much as I did For Whom the Bell Tolls. This one certainly wasn't it, although it had its moments. Hemingway's evocative style describes the animals of Kenya and the challenges of hunting them. I am most definitely not a hunter, nor a hunting enthusiast, but I could (in theory) have enjoyed this book anyway. But, for the most part, I didn't.
I expect that the next book I read, Born Free: A Lioness of Two Worlds, will be more in line with my sensibilities.
This was the third of a projected 18 consecutive Africa-related books that I plan to read this year.
