Completely charming, smart and sweet. I really enjoyed it.

One cute thing I noticed on my reread: there's a part where Mrs. Baker is explaining to Holling how characters in Macbeth are different even though their names start (and sometimes end) with the same letter (Macbeth and Malcom, Duncan and Donalbain). Had a little laugh over this one since I was occasionally confusing Holling's friends with their similar names (Meryl Lee and Mai Thi, Doug and Danny). Pretty sure this little dig was included on purpose for people like me. :-)

Wish I could explain it better, but this book just captures a sweet feeling of nostalgia and innocence and goodness. I don't know how kids would feel about it, but fans of The Wonder Years should feel right at home in the world of this book.
