The book is set in Victorian London during the Ripper era. There are six humans with superpowers who keep the people safe from ghosts and maintain the barriers between worlds. They have been told a seventh is coming who will aid them in this battle. Percy Parker arrives at the school of Athens to continue her education. She is an albino with a great gift for languages. She feels a great attraction towards Professor Alexi Rychman who also feels the connection between them. But is she the seventh they have been waiting for or is it all a trick?

I really tried to get into this book but the language really held it back. By the end of the book I was just skimming. The characters annoyed me and the drawn out plot failed to engage. I wouldn't bother with the next book in the series.
