I picked up this book at the library because of the pretty cover. I didn’t read the synopsis, I just checked it out. When I got home and read the synopsis, it was interesting enough… but… I found it to be so ridiculous. I didn’t like this story all that much. It was rather disappointing.

First and foremost, I don’t like stories about overly independent women who think that they are indestructible and need no one. I do realize that there is a reading audience for this kind of character, but I’m not one of them. If you are, you may like it.

But aside from Helen’s annoying audacity, the story was rather lacking. I kept waiting for something cool to happen. The climax came at a weird part in the middle, which I only realize now after I’ve finished. I assumed something cooler would happen, but the story kind of just died off. I think the author tried to lead into the next book too strongly. Sadly it didn’t help my disinterest in this series.

The details about the gods they worshipped were interesting enough, the descriptions of the places they visited were okay. It was just a disappointing read for me and I won’t be reading book 2.

RATING:
I am rating this book at a 2: Fair, Not quite worth the time to read. It wasn’t totally horrifying. It was partly “not my cup of tea,” partly a weird storyline, and partly an annoying lead character.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
If you like books about strong, independent, and self-sufficient heroine’s you may find this story/series interesting. Proceed at your own risk.
