** spoiler alert ** This book is very interesting because of how Rukmani''s life is starting to be, while India is starting to change around her life. Like of how her family is struggling with the money and the food which they don't have enough, and two of her family members which is two of her son's, and the other two son's of hers went somewhere else, which they've gotten a good job which they can get a lot of money for their family. Plus one of her son's have went to serve as a servant somewhere like a few miles from their home. And so the rest of the two siblings is with their parents, and also, Rukmani has decided to adopt Puli a kid that lives on the street which he has no parents, to take care of him, so he's actually an orphan who has a disease, which he has no fingers on both of his hands. Plus Rukmani's husband, Nathan dies from a sickness. So I usually think that this book is about of how life can be hard when your country is changing around you and the struggle to live also.
