I've read several reviews of this novel, and yes, there is a feeling of familiarity, of returning to the world of To Kill a Mockingbird, of small town life. But quickly you find that this is not the Finch family and the Peck family (get it, Gregory Peck was Atticus Finch in the movie....bleh) is anything but endearing. The book starts out slow, which is forgivable because Morris is setting the stage for a lazy, hot summer. Unfortunately the action doesn't pick up until the end with a horrific murder when it's too late to save the book.
