I'm a little underwhelmed. It was an interesting book, but I never did connect with the characters and all the paragraphs spent delighting in fleshy women got tiring after a while. One passage in particular even went so far as to praise the crack separating the two halves of a woman's buttocks. That was a little much.

I don't know what this book is like in the original Arabic, but the translation seems a little awkward and clunky. Several times I ran across passages that were flat in English, but it was apparent that there was some poetry behind them. It was sort of like being at the opera when a character is having a complete meltdown onstage and the translated supertitles read something like "I am sad. No one has ever been in more anguish than I am." Etc.

I'm not sure if I'll read the other two books in the trilogy. Probably not. I may look for a synopsis so I can see how things turned out for everybody.
