Asclepias is Chrisopher Kline's second novel. It has the same main characters as his first book, Hostile Lookout. Asclepias is as good or perhaps better than the first book. His protagonist, Tony Spencer is just doing his job; This time, he is hunting for milkweed plants. He is to obtain samples from every species found in Arizona. Our mild-mannered milkweed man becomes embroiled in murder, illegal border traffic, a mysterious plant nursery, a wicked woman, snakebite, and yes, a bit of romance! Tony is almost killed before he solves the mystery and the bad guys get their come-uppance. The descriptions of the wilderness area in southern Arizona are outstanding, Kline's love of Arizona and his way with words will have you wishing to see it for yourself. I highly recommend both Hostile Lookout and Asclepias. It's hard to put either of them down once you begin!
