This book works on two levels-if you are a fan of the Walking Dead and have read the comic books, it gives you some background to the sadistic Governor. On the second level, if you have not read the Walking Dead, it gives you an inkling of what's possible to come on the series and may make you want to run out and just buy the Walking Dead Omnibus.

So, the review-this book starts out with a group of guys (4) and one of them has a daughter. They are basically trying to figure out what happened, why there are undead and day to day survival. There's a stereotype for each dude: the sickly wimp, the strong 'git er dun' type, the follower and the bully. Unfortunately, the git er dun dude is the one with the kid. He loves her very much and that's obvious.

We open with the group taking haven in a mansion, pretty much right after the zombie nightmare has begun. They begin to secure their fortress...things happen and they have to leave. It goes on like this for the rest of the book. They find a haven, something happens that screws everything up and they have to leave.

I read this book in a day or two because it was just that simple. In no way am I saying the writing is bad. The writing is solid and descriptive. I just didn't want to put it down because I kept wondering what was going to happen next; like what kind of mess were they going to get in and how were they going to get out.

Everything is chugging along and the end just up and knocks the crap out of you. You really just don't see what's happening coming. It's like taking a trip in a car on a smooth road, then the road banks hard left and your car explodes. Yeah, it was like that. I will be honest, I was assuming that this book would end with abc but it ended frqjal.

Fast read, enjoyable, don't have to be a fan of the show to enjoy.
