This is probably the closest thing I've read to a romance novel since my days with Anne of Green Gables, or Anne of Avonlea I suppose. I read it really quickly, and parts of it were fun. A few characters were quirky and entertaining, but the main character, Novalee Nation, was a little too perfect for me to find endearing. The novel starts off, with her as a pregnant teen, abandoned mid-cross-country road trip by a no-good boyfriend in a WalMart parking lot in nowheresville Oklahoma. Given the circumstances, you want to root for her, and I did, but I just never found her all that compelling. If you want a quick, certainly not intellectual read, for a plane ride or the like, this would be a fine pick.
