This is the second book in the Jane True series, and it was better than the first one. I'm now very intrigued to see where this series goes. Jane is half supe/half human, though she's only know about the supe world for a few months. Her vampire detective boyfriend lives in Boston and she lives in Maine, so they've been dating long distance. He invites her to Boston for Valentine's weekend, but it turns bad when a half-supe villian targets them. She goes home, but the villian follows her, forcing her back to Boston and relative safety for her family and friends. Bad stuff happens and Jane grows a spine. There's also a heavy dose of political intrigue.

I really like where the author is taking the central relationship in this series, and Jane's growing powers are interesting. In fact, I like everything about the supe world in this series. It's different than most urban fantasies, in a good way.
