This was a fantastic novel. It begins in the present, providing a glimpse of the damage that the plague brought to this small town in England, before reverting to the past, prior to the plague arriving. The main character is sympathetic and engaging, and the other primary characters are well fleshed out. The ending is intensely satisfying and manages to surprise in more ways than one. I stayed up far too late, several nights in a row, and finished the book in less than a week. I highly recommend this book for historical fiction lovers, feminists and, well, anyone!
