Lindsay is a solid writer and I love how he manages to portray Dexter's character in a character that claims to have no character. When you think about it, these books are written from a brilliant perspective. This book was a bit of a stretch, though.

Dexter by Design wasn't my favorite in this series, but we get to know Dexter a little better. He's moving into uncharted territories. Marriage has made him a little content (complacent?) and his growing relationship with his foster children, Astor and Cody, is intriguing, to say the least. Dexter starts to question himself, though, and I found myself developing a dislike for Doubtful Dexter.

While Dexter is trying to find his Dark Passenger again, the Miami police are dealing with a deranged artist who is staging murder scenes all over Miami. Deborah enlists Dexter's help and suddenly Dexter and his family are the murderer's next target.

Will the old Dexter be ready when their time comes or has he met his match?
