Now that I'm finished, I can't seem to stop thinking of the characters. That's what I truly appreciate in a novel...likeable characters (Ethan, Mary, Allen, Ellen, Danny, Joey) who I miss and who almost become part of my life. Steinbeck does a great job of doing this here.
Ultimately, this novel is a tragedy; in more ways than one. I won't expand on this thought so as not to spoil it for others.
It's quite suspenseful and keeps you wondering, just what's going to happen here?... Once done, it continues with its suspense; just what did happen here?...
The kind of book you never really do put down.
Enjoy! I certainly did.
