Quite disappointing. This book had all sorts of glowing reviews but I found it to be very slow going (I think it took me a month to get through it) didn't exactly have me on the edge of my seat. It may be the victim of a really bad translation. The setting in late 19th century Paris is really its only saving grace. This is the first in a series and I already own book #2 (set, apparently, in the Pere-Lachaise cemetery)...I'll be willing to give #2 a go sometime next year but since I have been on a bit of a roll lately in reading books I'm not too crazy about, I think I will end the year by sticking to re-reads of a couple of favorites: Little Women and Pride and Prejudice.
