I should have written the review immediately after reading the book. Now I just feel like giving the cliff notes version of a book review.
Reason for reading - I saw the movie trailer and wanted to read the book first. Still need to watch the movie.
Plot - Fantastic. Best part of the entire book. Kept me on my toes and I couldn't decide what I wanted to happen.
Characters - Formulaic. I wanted them to be original but they were caricatures. The main character couldn't decide to be an adult even though she wanted to be treated as one. That drove my crazy. I wanted her to be decisive, grow a backbone.
Setting - I have no idea where this is set. The setting played such a small part in the book that it could have taken place in Any City, USA.
Writing - Pretty good. I was sucked in the story and read the entire book in only two days. Sometimes the writing was over the top but it worked for the most part.
Ending - I hated the ending. I won't discuss it but it stank. Badly. I almost threw the book across the room. Thus the three star rating instead of four.
Morality review - some brief sex, language, drug use, and arson. Definitely a PG-13 rated book.
Would I read it again? No. Am I glad I read it? Yes, if only to gain a small taste of what it would be like for a child to be reared only for organ donation to a sibling. Unlikely scenario, but food for thought.
