Cassia lives in a world where everything is planned for everyone and there are never any doubts. The government decides everything from what job one has to what food one eats to who one will ultimately marry. Each person finds out who their match is at a big ceremony with lots of show. When Cassia gets her match, there is a small "mistake" and she gets two, one of which only appearing for a brief moment. She begins to question the world around her and the things that she has taken for granted. An example of dystopian lit though not a strong one. It felt more like the romance/love triangle was more important than the bigger questions. This book could be used as a gateway book for more intense dystopian texts, though it could also scare some fans of the genre away from modern attempts.
