The White Darkness is about fourteen-year-old Sym's journey to Antarctica and the crazy things that happen while she is there. I'm between giving this book a 4 and a 5 star rating. It is an intense work that kept me reading (not slow paced despite how long it is). I actually stayed up till three am finishing the book because I had to know what happened. I think the book also dealt with some very interesting characters. Yet, at the same time, Uncle Victor becomes very unrealistic to me, and though I was disgusted with him for his actions, there were times when I had to wonder why Sym would trust him. I thought she should have realized his true intentions much earlier. Overall, though, the book was highly entertaining and I would recommend it to young adult and adult readers.
