This was the National Book Award winner for young adults.
This is a ery good, prose poem, a fast read. A family fleeing Vietnam at the end of the war and ultimately coming to Alabama. This is a valuable book to understand an immigrant experience. The changes, the bullying, feeling dumb here from having to learn new ways and new language--all powerful. The book came from the author's own experience and it seems totally believable.
