I really liked this story, but I hated the book. Confused, eh?

Me too. Let me try to explain.

I feel like the story was good, with a good message. Beauty has to learn that just because she is different doesn't mean she isn't beautiful. It's a story packed full of royalty and fighting and magic. I loved that it was a story that you could really disappear into and enjoy yourself.

However, I feel like the author was trying to cram too much into one book. I feel that she could have easily expanded the story and made at least three books out of it. There are parts that I felt extremely disappointed about and wanted to know more. The beginning of the book is entirely about Beauty's family history, which I found to be interesting in and of itself. There was more about her family than was really needed for me to understand her part of the story a little more, but not enough to satisfy my curiosity about the other interesting characters.

Therefore, the beginning of the book dragged on a lot. I would just be getting interested in one person when it would jump to another. Once I got to the guts of the story, the part about Beauty, things flowed a lot more for me and I started to really enjoy the book more.

I think there was such a great universe to explore and I wish she would have expanded this story a lot more. I could see myself reading more about Beauty's family, as well as the Mushroom Race, the Silver Beings, Ramesh and Joziz. I'm just very disappointed.
